Policy and Health Issues Committee

The Policy and Health Issues Committee develops and reviews evidence-based policies, positions and perspectives on issues of interest and importance to Doctors Nova Scotia. This committee serves an advisory role to the Board of Directors.

Criteria

Physicians and medical learners interested in serving on the Policy and Health Issues Committee must:

  • Be member of Doctors Nova Scotia
  • Be able to commit to a two or three-year term
  • Possess general knowledge and/or interest in health-care issues

Eligibility

A member-at-large is any member with the right to hold an office (full members, retired members, members on leave, clinical assistants), as outlined in Section 1 of the Rules & Regulations. A medical learner is a student or resident member.

Time commitment

Serving on the Policy and Health Issues Committee requires:

  • Two- to three-hour meetings four or five times per year
  • Two hours of preparation time to read meeting materials 

Honoraria and expenses for meeting attendance are paid according to the Honoraria and Expense policy.

Expression of interest

Doctors Nova Scotia members interested in serving on the E-health Committee can submit an Expression of Interest form.

Vacancies

The 2026 vacancies have now been filled, however, interested members can submit an Expression of Interest form at any time throughout the year and will be notified if a vacancy becomes available. Submissions are kept on file for two years.

Each member can serve a maximum of two consecutive three-year terms. If the incumbent wants to re-offer for a second term, the appointment must be recommended by the committee and approved by the Board of Directors.
