The physician liability premium (PLP) rebate reimburses physicians for part of the cost of their liability coverage, which in most cases is provided by the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
The Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness (DHW) administers the PLP rebate program.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for the PLP rebate, a physician must:
- Pay liability premiums in excess of $1,750 per year
- Ask the CMPA (or their liability coverage provider) to provide their premium details to the DHW
Rebate formula
As reaffirmed in the 2019 Master Agreement contract, the formula used to calculate physician liability payment rebates is as follows:
- To qualify: Physician must pay at least $1,750 per year for liability premiums
- Reimbursement: The DHW will reimburse physicians for 90% of the total premium paid, less the $1,750 base rate
Rebate payment schedule
MSI will issue rebate payments to eligible physicians. Payments are issued quarterly.
MSI requires physicians to complete a Business Arrangement form and submit supporting banking information so that they may receive their reimbursement payments.
