Developing an APP contract

Developing an APP contract

Each physician on an APP chooses from a standard list of services to create a personalized deliverables agreement.

All APP contracts are standard across the province, based on an FTE model where 1.0 FTE is a minimum of 37.5 hours per week for 46 weeks per year. Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS) negotiates the annual rate for each specialty through the Physician Agreement

To ensure that each community’s needs are met, each physician on an APP chooses from a standard list of services, created and approved by the Department of Health and Wellness, Nova Scotia Health (NSH) and DNS, to create a personalized deliverables agreement.

Physicians negotiate the deliverables directly with NSH (with support from DNS) based on the needs of their community, the community’s existing health-care providers, and the physician’s work capacity and skill set.

Doctors Nova Scotia’s Physician Advisors are specially trained to assist you in developing your APP deliverables. Their goal is to help facilitate those discussions and ensure the deliverables are comprehensive, patient-centred, sustainable, fair and equitable across the province. This approach will help you preserve a healthy, productive relationship with NSH.

If you're developing a deliverables agreement with NSH, we’re here to help.
