Membership Dues

Membership with Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS) gives physicians the tools, resources and support they need to help them achieve a balanced and successful career.


Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS) does far more than just negotiate physician remuneration. We also provide programs and support for physicians in every stage of their career, whether they are medical learners, practising physicians, or retired – including a comprehensive health and dental plan, leadership training, and a team of physician advisors who deliver on-the-ground practice support. Payment options

Membership dues to DNS can be paid by any one of the following methods:

  • Cheque/money order
    Full payment payable to Doctors Nova Scotia. 
  • Credit card
    Visa, MasterCard and AMEX are accepted for full and monthly payments for full member dues only.
  • Direct debit 
    Payment can be automatically withdrawn from a bank account on a monthly or annual basis for full member dues only. 
  • Online banking
    Accepted by Bank of Montreal (BMO), CIBC, RBC, Scotiabank, TD Canada Trust, and Desjardins. The authorization number requested by the bank is same as your DNS membership number.

Monthly payments

To arrange monthly payments, complete a pre-authorized payment plan authorization form.

There is a service fee of 2.5% for monthly pre-authorized payments. The Missed Monthly Payment Policy applies if monthly payments are missed.

Payment deadline 

The payment deadline for annual membership dues has been extended to Oct. 1, 2021. 

Unpaid dues

Members who don’t pay their dues on time will be subject to the Dues Collections Policy.

Changing membership categories

Members transitioning from one category to another are required to complete a membership category change request form. All requests are subject to approval.

In addition to the association’s role in negotiating physician remuneration and providing a complete health and dental plan, membership with Doctors Nova Scotia offers you a comprehensive package of benefits and services and a range of personal and professional resources to support you in your daily practice. 

Doctors Nova Scotia provides members with several support programs and services, including: the Professional Support Program, the Physician Navigator Program, PLP rebates, the Parental Leave Program and the Medical Student Bursary Program.

Members also have access to the Business of Medicine program, which offers support in running an effective and efficient business, seminars about billing, and personalized support and guidance for purchasing and implementing an EMR.

In addition, DNS ensures that the concerns of Nova Scotia’s physicians are heard on both the provincial and national stages. Our efforts help ensure that you are best positioned to provide your patients with accessible, high-quality care.
