Missed monthly payments policy

Missed monthly payments policy

Doctors Nova Scotia’s Missed Monthly Payment Policy outlines penalties for late payments or missed monthly payments.

First missed payment

Members are permitted one missed payment without penalty. In this case, members will be notified within five business days of a missed payment and for alternate arrangements to be made to make the payment. The member has two weeks from the date of notification to make the monthly payment. If the member fails to make the payment within the two-week deadline, the process will continue.

Second missed payment

In the event of a second missed payment, or failure to make payment after notification of the first missed payment, the option for monthly payment through direct bank withdrawals is removed. The member must make monthly payments with a credit card.

Subsequent missed payments

Any subsequent missed payments will result in the member being required to pay the remaining balance for annual membership dues. The member will have one month from notification to make this payment in full.

Unpaid membership dues

If the member chooses not to pay membership dues, or misses the one-month deadline, a late fee of 10% of the outstanding balance is added to the fee. If the invoice is still unpaid as of Nov. 1, membership with DNS and all benefits will cease. This means the member will face delayed honoraria payments, be ineligible to vote on contract agreements or in Board of Directors elections, and be ineligible to access the Professional Support Program and Physician Navigator Program, as well as DNS affinity partner programs, such as preferred rates on TELUS mobility smartphones and packages and home and auto insurance offered by TD Meloche Monnex. If applicable the member’s extended health and dental benefits plan will be placed on hold and reinstated once payment is received.

Exceptional circumstances

Discretion will be used in exceptional circumstances.
