Negotiations 2023

The 2019 Master Agreement and Clinical/Academic Funding Plan (C/AFP) contracts expire on March 31, 2023. This means that negotiations will begin this winter, and preparations are now underway.

Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS) is preparing for the next round of contract negotiations. The 2019 Master Agreement and Clinical/Academic Funding Plan (C/AFP) contracts are due to expire on March 31, 2023. Contract negotiations will begin this winter, and preparations are now underway.

Member engagement

Fulsome preparations for negotiations are important. Doctors Nova Scotia has prepared an extensive member outreach strategy, which includes a member survey, targeted group meetings, 15 meetings with physicians in academic departments in Halifax and a series of meetings in communities across the province in October and November.

Negotiation method

The association is investigating alternatives to the traditional positional bargaining, specifically a method known as interest-based negotiation (IBN). DNS is in discussion with government about the benefits of this method, while preparing for all scenarios. Learn more about IBN in the October 2022 issue of the doctorsNS magazine.
