Serving in an advisory capacity, the committee supports the Board of Directors, senior leadership, and other internal committees, helping DNS identify and address systemic barriers within the medical profession while fostering an inclusive environment.
Equity-deserving communities represented include Indigenous (particularly Mi’kmaw), Black, African Nova Scotian, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, women, persons with disabilities, and internationally trained physicians (ITPs).
Criteria
Physicians and medical learners interested in joining the Member EDI(R)A Committee must:
- Be a member of Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS)
- Be able to commit to a 2 or 3-year term
- Possess general knowledge or interest in health-care issues and advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, reconciliation, and accessibility within the profession
- Demonstrate a commitment to equity-deserving communities, such as Indigenous (particularly Mi’kmaw), Black, African Nova Scotian, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, women, persons with disabilities, and/or internationally trained physician (ITP)
Eligibility
A member-at-large is any member with the right to hold an office (full members, retired members, members on leave, clinical assistants), as outlined in Section 1 of the Rules & Regulations. A medical learner is a student or resident member.
Time commitment
Serving on the Member EDI(R)A Committee requires:
- Two hour virtual meetings five times per year
- Review of meeting materials
