About This Opportunity

The MD Recruitment and Retention Lead is a part of NSH Physician Recruitment team and reports to the Director of Recruitment and to the Zone Medical Executive Director.

The role operates within the goals and objectives of the provincial recruitment and retention strategy and supports key messages of the NSH Physician Recruitment team and the Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment (OHPR).

Recruiting physicians is a collaborative team effort and includes onboarding and ensuring new recruits are settled in their roles and communities. Bringing a clinical perspective to the local recruitment team, the role will work in collaboration with key stakeholders.

The MD Recruitment and Retention Lead will work in close alignment with Physician Recruitment Consultants providing complementary supports to existing recruitment processes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with physician recruitment consultant in respective zone around candidate experience and management
  • Provide physician-to-physician representation bringing a collegial focus to recruiting and retention
  • Support local recruitment and retention activities in alignment with the NSH Standard Operating Procedures
  • Create local awareness (with physician and community colleagues) of recruitment and retention activities and promote key messages of the recruitment team
  • Support recruitment process and retention practices and aid in troubleshooting problems in consultation of local NSH/IWK leadership and OHPR
  • Participate in meetings as required (to include team meetings/check ins (NSH/IWK/OHPR)
  • Update recruitment team on zonal level issues and priorities regarding physician recruitment for their respective areas Recruitment/Candidate Supports

Working closely with the recruitment team and other partners, the MD Recruitment and Retention Lead may be involved in the following activities, to varying degrees based on the needs of respective Zones:

  • Meet with potential candidates to share a ‘Day in the Life’ experience with physician candidates interested in learning more about practice opportunities in Nova Scotia
  • Participate in Site Visits and facility/community tours where determined appropriate
  • Support the physician recruitment transition to practice
  • Support the integration of new recruits into the medical community and connect with the new recruit periodically over the first year of practice as needed in alignment with the SOP
  • Participate in recruitment events, fairs, conferences, etc. as required by the Province
  • Document candidate information and use candidate management system for tracking Community Connections
  • Sharing of personal experiences as to why the Physician and the Physician’s family choose to live, work, and stay in the Physician’s community
  • In partnership with Physician Recruitment Consultants support community relations through presentations and updates outlining recruitment and retention activities and key messages
  • Local lead generation through community interactions promoting a path in medical education and engagement of resident cohorts
  • Collaborate and make connections with other physicians in the communities throughout the zone
  • Champion and help to share positive stories and information of recruitment and retention efforts
    • Maintain effective partnerships and communications with key stakeholders, including: 
    • Physician Recruitment Team
    • Office of Health Professionals Recruitment and Retention 
    • NSHA/IWK Physician Leadership (Zone Medical Executive Directors, Department Heads, Site Leads, etc.) 
    • Physician colleagues in Zone 
    • Community recruitment partners
    • Doctors Nova Scotia
    • Zonal MD Leads

Location

South Shore, Annapolis Valley, and Yarmouth

Qualifications

⦁    MD licensed in Nova Scotia and privileged with Nova Scotia Health. 
⦁    Evidence of past and ongoing leadership training.

Term and Remuneration

This position will be contracted annually and is anticipated to be approximately 3.75 hrs per week each (0.1 full time equivalent each). Compensation will be consistent with Master Agreement guidelines for GP sessional rate.
