Dr. Amanda MacDonald Green is the new president of Doctors Nova Scotia

Dr. Amanda MacDonald Green, a family physician in Windsor, is the new president of Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS), following her induction at the association’s annual general meeting on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

During her term, she will champion physician wellness and the optimization of health homes. Her priorities are also centred on guiding DNS through contract negotiations and strategic planning, while ensuring physicians are supported through an ongoing period of health system transformation.

“My year as president is coming at a pivotal time and I’m up for the challenge,” says Dr. MacDonald Green. “My goal will be to nurture and strengthen partnerships across the system so that investments in healthcare are sustained, optimized and utilized to their full potential.”

Dr. MacDonald Green co-owns the Windsor Collaborative Practice in the Annapolis Valley. The practice includes four family physicians and three Nova Scotia Health (NSH) providers – two family practice nurses and a social worker.

During her training, she had considered physical medicine and rehabilitation and surgery, until a rotation with a family physician proved that family medicine was her ideal specialty.

“I was drawn to the variety of the work, the breadth of practice in all the body systems, and the ability to tailor your practice to specific interests,” said Dr. MacDonald Green. “I saw the benefits of the longitudinal relationships that develop between physicians and patients, which turn medicine into art when you know the patient deeply.”

Dr. MacDonald Green is also passionate about teaching. As an associate professor at the Dalhousie Family Medicine Annapolis Valley Teaching Site, she trains the physicians of tomorrow.

Dr. MacDonald Green grew up on a wild blueberry farm in the rural community of Garden of Eden, Pictou County. She credits early years of raking blueberries for her work ethic, which helped her through the demanding years of medical school and post-graduate training.

With the beginning of Dr. MacDonald Green’s presidency, Dr. Shelly McNeil assumes the role of past president.
