  • Today, eight new cases of COVID-19 were announced, bringing the total in Nova Scotia to 1,034.
    • Four deaths were announced; all were residents of Northwood in Halifax, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Nova Scotia to 55

    • To date, Nova Scotia has had 35,375 negative test results
    • There are three licensed long-term care homes and unlicensed seniors’ facilities in Nova Scotia with active cases of COVID-19. Northwood has 25 residents and 15 staff with active cases. One other facility has one staff member with an active case and another facility has one resident with an active case
    • Phase two of the easing of restrictions is now in effect. The province announced an immediate family or household bubble. • Public beaches are reopening, but physical distancing must still be observed and groups cannot be larger than five people
    • More outdoor activities are now permitted, including archery, equestrian, golf, paddling, sailing, boating and tennis. Organized coaching and competitions are not permitted
    • Reminder: Phase one of Nova Scotia’s recovery plan is the easing of public health measures relating to outdoor and recreational activities
  • Nationally, there are 73,829 confirmed cases and 5,499 deaths from COVID-19.
    • Nationally, 1,225,049 people have been tested for COVID-19

Two federal subsidies available for physicians
Most physicians who have employees may be eligible for the Temporary Wage Subsidy and the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA). The 10% Temporary Wage Subsidy is equal to 10% of the remuneration paid from March 18 – June 19, 2020 up to $1,375 for each eligible employee to a maximum of $25,000 total per employer. The CEBA will provide interest-free loans of up to $40,000 to Canadian small businesses and not-for-profits. Repaying the balance of the CEBA loan on or before Dec. 31, 2022 will result in loan forgiveness of 25% ($10,000). Speak with your accountant about how you can leverage these supports.
