The Welcome Collaborative - Supporting internationally trained physicians who are newly licensed in Nova Scotia

The Welcome Collaborative (WC) is a new orientation program designed to help newly licensed physicians trained outside of Canada to integrate successfully into the Nova Scotian healthcare system.

The program is government funded and is scheduled to run over the next three years. It has been designed to bring together various stakeholders such as the province’s immigrant settlement services, the health authority, billing systems, Doctors Nova Scotia, Dalhousie University, and those physicians with lived experience. These groups learn valuable information about our participants and share information on services, education, and support. We will review the genesis of the program, review the curriculum offered, and present the recent results of our participant experience. We will also provide an overview of our program evaluation framework.

Speakers:

  • Rhonda Kirkwood, Director of Physician Performance, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
  • George Chimdi Mbara, Program Manager, Welcome Collaborative at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
  • Priya Patel, Administrative Assistant, Welcome Collaborative at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
