The Board of Directors is the directing and governing body that works on behalf of Doctors Nova Scotia between annual meetings. It is comprised of a range of elected and appointed members, including the Board Executive, elected members, regional representatives, Nova Scotia’s representative on the Canadian Medical Association’s board of directors, the Section Forum chair, a resident and a student representative.
Being a member of Doctors Nova Scotia and having an interest in serving on the Board of Directors is the only criteria. Participation on other boards or committees is an asset, but not a requirement.
The Board meets on Fridays, five times per year, at the Doctors Nova Scotia offices in Dartmouth.
Meeting packages are sent to Board members a week in advance; it takes about three hours to review the meeting package.
The position is for a one-year term effective June 2020.
Expression of interest
Doctors Nova Scotia members interested in the specialist outside HRM seat on the Board can submit an Expression of Interest form by June 5, 2020.
With the annual Board elections now closed, the Board of Directors is responsible for filling the unexpected vacancy (as per section 9.7 in the by-laws). They will appoint a candidate at their June 19 meeting.
