Member Listening Tour

Member Listening Tour

Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS) is launching a province-wide Member Listening Tour to ensure physicians’ experiences and priorities guide the association’s work and advocacy efforts.

About the tour

Doctors Nova Scotia leaders, including the President, Physician Advisory Team and Senior Leadership Team, will be visiting communities across the province to meet with physicians both in person and virtually.

These sessions are designed to foster open, two-way dialogue and ensure that member voices directly influence the association’s planning, member supports and advocacy priorities. By engaging physicians where they live and work, DNS aims to better understand the realities of healthcare in different regions and specialties. Insights from the tour will also inform the association’s approach to the next round of contract negotiations.

If you’re unable to make the scheduled sessions, feel free to submit your feedback in writing at feedback@doctorsns.com or connect with your DNS Physician Advisor.

What to expect

Through guided discussions, we’ll explore four key themes:

  1. What’s working well: What’s going well in your practice or community? What brings you the most satisfaction or pride? Where do you see opportunities for positive change?
  2. What challenges you’re facing: What barriers or pressures are making it hard to provide care or feel supported? Where are you feeling stuck or burnt out? if you were the Minister of Health or the CEO of Nova Scotia Health Authority for a day, what’s the one thing you’d change?
  3. What support or changes would help: What do you value most about your DNS membership? What could DNS do more of, less of, or differently to better support you and your patients? What tools, services, or benefits would make a meaningful difference for you?
  4. Your priorities for contract negotiations: What are your top priorities for the upcoming contract negotiations? Where does the current agreement fall short? What issues should DNS champion at the table?

The goal is to build a detailed understanding of members’ experiences with everything from burnout and workload to recruitment issues to areas of strength and satisfaction.

What happens with your feedback

Doctors Nova Scotia will validate key themes from the tour with physician input via a member-wide survey and pair this feedback with data from broader policy, economic and health system trends. A summary of physicians’ input and feedback will be shared with members.

The listening tour will help DNS identify where additional professional supports, educational resources, contract enhancements or changes, or community-building efforts are needed, ensuring the association evolves alongside its members.

In addition to the listening tour, DNS will:

  • conduct a province-wide online survey to gather quantitative data (January 2026)
  • conduct departmental meetings with C/AFP departments
  • participate in public opinion polling to monitor public sentiment (ongoing)
  • host targeted virtual focus groups and one-on-one interviews (winter 2026)
