Let's Talk Informatics: EMR - Related Burnout: What does the evidence suggest?

There is much discussion in the media about Burnout in the healthcare setting, and ample literature dedicated to Burnout as it relates to the use of an EMR. We will discuss what has been determined to lead to Burnout in this environment, with some of the strategies and mitigations that can be used to avoid during design, implementation and continued use of an EMR. As Nova Scotia embarks on implementation of a provincial Clinical Information System, we will discuss some of the challenges, differences between the US and Canadian experience for providers and ways we can all work towards avoidance of burnout.
