Primary Care Representative Council Election

The Primary Care Physicians' Representative Council advocates for the business and interests of primary care physicians. The 2018 election closed at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 12.

New members

The following members won their seats by acclamation:

Dr. Stephanie Langley – Inverness/Victoria/Cape Breton and Richmond counties
Dr. Kerry Jo Parker – Lunenburg and Queens counties
Dr. Erica Lasher (second term) – Digby/Yarmouth and Shelburne counties
Dr. Leslie Ribeiro (second term) - Annapolis/Kings counties

An election was held to determine who would represent Halifax Metro. Dr. Ajantha Jayabarathan won the election with 37% of the votes.

Each physician joins the council for a two-year term, beginning November 2018.

About the new representatives

Dr. Stephanie Langley
Dr. Langley is a full-scope family physician in North Sydney. She is also the medical education site director for the Cape Breton teaching site of Dalhousie Medical School.

Dr. Ajantha Jayabarathan
Known as Dr. AJ, she is a solo practitioner within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team in urban Halifax. Dr. Jayabarathan won the election with 37% of the votes.

Dr. Erica Lasher
This is Dr. Lasher’s second term on the council. She is an early career family physician who provides comprehensive care in a collaborative practice in Clare.

Dr. Kerry Jo Parker
Dr. Parker is a family physician who practises comprehensive care in Bridgewater. In addition to her office practice, Dr. Parker also cares for inpatients and provides obstetrical services.

Dr. Leslie Riberio
Middleton family physician Dr. Leslie Riberio is early in her career and is part of a collaborative practice. This is Dr. Ribeiro’s second term on the council.

About the Primary Care Physicians' Representative Council

The Primary Care Physicians' Representative Council advocates for the business and interests of primary care physicians. The council's work involves developing strategies for dealing with key issues affecting the role, responsibilities, and capabilities of primary care physicians.

Influencing change

The Council has provided feedback on new scopes of practice for pharmacists, including the Bloom Project, and on the new Workers’ Compensation Board contract, the Physician Resource Plan, the new medical staff bylaws, the collaborative care framework and medical assistance in dying.
